Twin Coast Cycle Trail
The Twin Coast journey is rich in Māori culture, encounters with which take many forms. On the trail around 10km west of Kawakawa, the people of Te Rito offer marae stays and visits featuring a whakatau (a welcome and storytelling), accommodation, and home-cooked kai (food). Te Rito caters for groups of twelve or more but welcome enquiries from manuhiri (visitors). Nau mai Haere mai!

With two sites planned for most of our trips, our main focus is the Marine Reserve in Deep Water Cove, with its well known clear waters, it is filled with plentiful and varied marine life, which also makes it fun for us – as we never know what else will turn up… explore a massive archway, amazing underwater scenary and have fun with cheeky fish that will make you laugh!

Giants and Glow Worms
Travel to the Hokianga and meet your local Māori guide, then venture into the ancient Waipoua Kauri Forest for an unforgettable encounter. Learn about life in the forest and hear Māori waiata (songs), myths and legends as your guide takes you on an intimate journey through nature and explains how the lives of local Māori are intertwined with the forest. The Waipoua forest is home to some of the most significant kauri trees still standing. Te Matua Ngahere (The Father of the Forest) is estimated to be between 2,500 and 3,000 years old, with a girth of 16 metres, while The Four Sisters are a graceful collection of kauri that have grown close together in sibling harmony.

Russell Boat and Beach Hire
What better way to spend a day in the Bay of Islands than on the water! Enjoy a days fishing on our self drive boats or try out our small and easy to sail catamarans. If you’ve never tried sailing before we can book you a short lesson to get you going. We’ve also got row boats, with or without outboards which are ideal for fishing. The self-drive boat is 15ft and powered by a 50hp Mercury two stroke outboard and is available for 1/2 day, full day and longer hires.
